AXIOM recently hosted visits by Sellafield Ltd Senior Project Engineering Managers (SPEMs). Visiting sites across the North West and Westlakes, the SPEMs had the opportunity to view the wealth of design services and engineering capability currently being deployed. The SPEMs were also introduced to the potential of linking the current AXIOM framework scope with existing partner company frameworks that could support broader life-cycle work. 

New arrangements see Sellafield Ltd, the organisation responsible for cleaning up the Sellafield nuclear site, becoming a subsidiary of the NDA, which is the public body responsible for the safe and efficient clean-up of the UK’s nuclear legacy.

A new ‘flatpack’ approach to buying cranes for Sellafield is set to save £53m for the UK taxpayer and speed up the decommissioning of Europe’s most complex nuclear site.

Sellafield Ltd achieves the “most significant stride ever” in its clean-up mission. The entire bulk stocks of historic nuclear fuel are now removed from one of the site’s oldest ponds.
